About Mac Studio
Even quicker than the Mac Pro, Mac Studio is now Apple's fastest desktop computer. It is a small tower computer that has the look of two Mac Minis stacked on top of one another.
This Mac Studio has 4 Thunderbolt ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, 2 USB-A slots, HDMI, as well as an audio jack port. Additionally, Mac Studio supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5. On the front, there are 2 USB-C ports and an SD card slot. This touted desktop computer is incredibly fast thanks to the new processor Apple introduced, the M1 Ultra.
About M1 Ultra Chip
Mac Studio users have the option of using the old M1 Max or the new M1 Ultra chip, however M1 Ultra is guaranteed to be the fastest variant amongst the M1 chips. According to Apple, this device can run up to 4 Apple Pro Display XDR displays and a 4K TV at once.
- a 20-core CPU, consisting of 16 fast cores and four efficient cores, which helps deliver a 90% higher multi-threded performance than the fastest available 16-core PC desktop chip, meanwhile reaching it's peak performance using 100 fewer watts.
- a 64-core GPU, which delivers a faster performance than the highest-end PC GPU available, while using 200 fewer watts of power than it.
- and a 32-core Neural Engine.
Apple claims that the M1 Ultra is supposed to be 80% faster than the fastest Mac Pro, meanwhile supporting up to 128GB of memory.
The Apple M1 Ultra uses a System on Chip (SoC) design on its core hardware, namely the CPU, GPU, Memory and various I/O components. SoC is a hardware system that is more integrated and combines all parts that were previously separate chips from computer hardware components into one whole complete part. SoCs have the ability to operate more faster, with less power, while remaining cooler.
Why I chose Mac Studio M1 Ultra?
I prefer and am familiar with the Apple ecosystem, I really like using their products to link all of my devices—from my iPhone, iPad, and Mac—to one another. And sometimes I like to edit videos, that's why I need Mac Studio in order to speed up the rendering video process. Currently having a Mac Mini, I am looking forward to upgrading it into a Mac Studio, therefore I researched about it and at the same time used it for this project.
