On Wednesday, 23rd of March 2022, SMPK1 BPK PENABUR held a field trip to Singapore. Due to the current pandemic, it was held virtually. This event consists of an explanation of Singapore, as well as their partnership with the schools there, one of which was ANDSS also known as Anderson Secondary School. SMPK 1, together with ANDSS held an exchange program for our students. Now, let us move on with the event!
DAY 1
We started this event at 11.00 with a morning devotion, followed by an opening speech from our headmaster. A video detailing SMPK 1's relationship with ANDSS was then presented. With such a strong connection they have, it turns out that SMPK 1 has been sending scholars to study at ANDSS. After the video, 2 teachers offered a Q&A session for students who had questions about the scholarship. The discussion then moved on to SMPK 1 alumni, who described their experiences as scholars. Such as how they became a scholar, how they lived as a scholar in ANDSS, and their current lives and occupations. These scholars are now successful individuals living on their own in a developed country.
We continued our program at 13.00, following a welcome message by ANDSS's principal. We were then assigned to ZOOM breakout rooms. We had previously been notified by a group, so we knew which breakout room to go to. The goal was for us to interact with and communicate with the Anderson students. By the end of the session, the students from SMPK 1 had become familiar with the students from ANDSS.
We were then gathered back in the main room. It was now time for the students to present their different countries' history, climate, economics, and popular local cuisines. Anderson students took the stage first, followed by our students. My group went first! I shared my screen and began to explain. I was worried that I might make a mistake, but when it was over, I felt a big relief. Everything continued on till 15.00.
DAY 2
On day 2, we also started the event at 11.00 with a morning devotion, followed by multiple videos of teachers from SMPK 1 explaining Singapore's history, recreations, cultures, Singaporean cuisines, how to make them and living in Singapore's PROS and CONS. I really want to travel to Singapore and see such recreational areas after watching the film! After watching the video, I was inspired to try Singaporean food.
We had break time and resumed at 13.00. As we arrived at the ANDSS's ZOOM meeting, we began with a brief quiz about Singapore, which I got first place! Then, the students present their respective country's education system, covid-19 impact, student's thoughts and feelings, cultures and languages.
By the end of the program, the students were given some questions through an online questionnaire which we all had to answer. The Anderson students summed up the event with dance performances. Before we left the ZOOM, students were instructed to send emails to each other, in order to get to know each other better, as well as to keep in touch with each other. We exchanged socials and ended the event.
This event was for sure an unforgettable one!
